Going to Therapy

What can I expect ?

Going to therapy can be a daunting experience.  We may wonder 'What are they going to ask me?', 'Will they judge me?', 'What if I can't cope with the thoughts and feelings that I may have as a result of therapy?'.  A 'good' therapist should be aware of these and other anxieties and be able to discuss them with you.  It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist and can build a therapeutic relationship where you feel understood and supported.  Research has shown that 40% of the changes achieved through therapy is as a result of a good therapeutic relationship.

Because of this, Psychological Therapies in Hull and East Yorkshire have a strong focus on therapy being person centred.  It should meet your needs.  It should feel accessible and should challenge your thinking in a way that promotes positivity, rather than anxiety or further distress.  This isn't to say that therapy should be easy - if it feels easy then it may be that your therapist and you are only working on the areas which are most obvious and not at the root of your difficulties.

As a result of our person-centred approach, and clinical psychology expertise we are able to work using a number of different therapeutic models including;

  •  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  •  Third-wave Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques,
  • ·Mindfulness
  • ·Cognitive Analytic Therapy
